Rich Horton's Market Summaries:

Summary: Say ..., 2004

As with Lady Churchill's, it appears that Say... will only publish one issue in 2004 -- its planned second issue of the year will come out in early 2005. It remains an intriguing 'zine. Each issue is themed around a question -- 2004's issue, #4, was themed "Why Aren't We Crying?".

There were 11 stories in #4, all short (though one was 7400 words by my estimate), 3 short-shorts. Total wordcount: just under 30,000.

My favorite story was Sonya Taaffe's "Featherweight", lushly written (as one expects from Taaffe, a fine poet), romantic, moving, about a man looking for a heart for a mysterious woman (an alien? a machine?). I also liked Janet Chui, Mark Rich, Ezra Pines, and David J. Schwartz (among other decent stories).
